Effective Methods to Handle Foam in Filling Machines
Why Foam Occurs in Liquid Filling Machines
Foam formation during the filling process can result from several factors:
Air or oxygen enters the liquid during feeding, leading to foam.
The product itself contains a high amount of gas or surfactants, making it prone to foaming under agitation or aeration.
Improper operation or mechanical failure of the filling equipment.
How to Reduce or Eliminate Foam
Depending on the cause, the following methods can be applied:
Minimize Air Intake
Store liquids in an oxygen-free environment to prevent air from entering. Techniques such as negative-pressure or pressure-balance filling can also reduce the amount of air introduced during packaging.
Reduce Surfactant Content
Adjust the amount of surfactants used during production to lower the tendency of the liquid to foam.
Inspect and Maintain Equipment
Perform regular maintenance and checks on the filling machine to ensure it operates correctly and does contribute to foam generation.
3-1. Check whether there is any foreign matter in the filling head
3-2. Check whether the filling parameters are changed.
3-3. Whether the peristaltic pump hose is aged
3-4. Check whether the stirring or heating function of the liquid silo is abnormal.
Important Considerations
Always remove all foam thoroughly during cleaning and sanitizing to avoid hygiene issues.
If foam has already affected product quality, consider reformulating the product or adding antifoaming agents.
