An European customer purchased a mono dosis liquid filling and sealing machine from us to pack his water-base buffer solution. What is buffer solution? Which kind of pump should be used for this solution? Is special packing material needed to package the solution?
In the definition, buffer solution is the water-base solution containing a weak acid and its conjugate base. A buffer solution can keep the pH value of a solution constant, even though there are chemical changes between the chemicals. Naturally, human beings and other animals all have buffer solution in body to keep pH value of blood between 7.35 and 7.45. The buffer solution is also necessary in in-vitro experiments and researches. The commonly seen buffer systems are weak acid with its compound (e.g., Hac – NaAc), weak base with its compound (e.g., NH3·H2O – NH4Cl), aqueous solution of an acid salt of a weak polyacid and its corresponding secondary salt (NaH2PO4 – Na2HPO4).
What is the suitable filling pump and material for buffer solution?
These kinds of buffer solutions are not corrosive although they contain acid or base. They are not viscous, neither. Therefore, peristaltic pump is sufficient to meter the solution and finish liquid filling process perfectly. This is the answer to the second question. As for the packing film, PET/PE is recommended. In practical production, the liquid filling and sealing machine can heat the packing film and blow it to bottles with specified shape. Then the peristaltic works for buffer solution filling. After filling, the machine heats the bottles to heat them, which is followed by coding, punching, discharging and so on.
