Classification and Application of Wet Wipe

Society develops and our life standard upgrades. It generally becomes a trend for us to use wet wipes in our daily life for their convenience. At first, wipes are only products for personal care, but now they are widely used in our family life and industrial production.

1. Classification

1) From functional perspective

In modern market, wipes can be classified into two types: ordinary wipes and disinfectant wipes. The former contains skin-care ingredients to clean and moisturize skin, instead of disinfecting bacteria or virus, which is the function of the latter. Among disinfectant wipes, medical wipes can disinfect and sterilize skin or object surface. In normal conditions, ingredients for disinfection or sterilization contained in these wipes can be shown on packages.

2) From material perspective

Some wipes are made from paper and others from non-woven. Anyway, most common wipes are even made from spunlace non-woven. Such a material is further made from polyester, cotton and viscose. Polyester touches hard while cotton and viscous touch soft.

2. Application

1) Disinfecting and removing stains

Stains and bacteria are both pollutants. Stains are visible but bacteria is not. Most wipes can remove stains while only wipes containing disinfectant can kill bacteria.

Some common disinfectants are benzylamine chloramine, cetylpyridinium chloride... They are pretty moderate and can be used to disinfect skin. However, there is a rumor that these ingredients harm users’ health. In fact, disinfectant ingredients in high concentration will be harmful and irritating indeed. But as it is regulated in relative laws, wet wipes contain very little disinfectants and can pass irritation test on skin.

2) Moisturizing

Propylene glycol is commonly seen in ingredient list of wipes for moisturizing. Some wipe ingredients are extracted from vegetation. They ensures nature, safety and certain moisturizing. However, without moisturizing agents, there will be a serious dilution of wet wipes’ moisturizing performance.

3. Material for wet tissue and wet wipes

The material for wet tissue and wet wipes are mainly two kinds, including paper and non woven. Most of the wet wipes are made from the spun lance non woven.
