Alu Foil for pharmaceutical medicine blister package

Printed alu foil is the sealing material or lidding material, covering PVC sheet in blister packaging. It can be printed with colorful words or patterns and even on the both sides. Alu foil is calendered from electrolytic alu with 99% purity. It is odorless and non-toxic and obtains good performance of electric conduction, light stopping, humidity preventing, air resistance and taste preserving. High-density metal crystal structure of alu foil enables it to stop any air, water vapor and light and protect the packed products. Among modern packing material, alu foil is always used as barrier layer for almost all products required to be packed by lightproof or high-barrier composite material.

What about the barrier property of the alu foil? Currently, there is still a quality gap between alu foil for medicine in China and that in other countries. From the perspective of application of printed alu foil for medicine producer, there are some problems. For example, the number of holes of the alu foil doesn’t meet the requirements. The hole is a penetration insufficiency of alu foil, which has an effect on barrier performance, especially on that of pharmaceutical packages. Transmission of oxygen, water vapor and light will decrease drugs’ effect easily. Furthermore, drugs quality bears on the takers’ health directly. Therefore, the package quality is a matter that cannot be ignored since the package is a special product to protect drugs’ effect. In the national standard for alu foil for medicines, it is regulated that there cannot be holes with diameter larger than 0.3mm and the number of holes with diameter ranging from 0.1-0.3mm cannot be over 1 per square meter. However, alu foil in China hardly meets this standard.

Alu foil for medicines might have nonuniform thickness and low tensile strength. When its thickness is not uniform, the amount of coated adhesive can hardly meet the standard requirements and be uniform but has larger difference. It will further influence heat seal strength of alu foil and plastic sheet. Besides, the both shortage of alu foil will cause it breaking as tension is put to roll the foil and be bad for printing. These problems should be emphasized by producers. Currently, alu foil is more and more applied for pharmaceutical package and alu foil printing machine is innovated continuously. As a result, alu foil industry develops quite rapidly and the consumption of alu foil increases year by year.
