Announcement – Holiday for Dragon Boat Holiday

How time flies! It’s the right time for us to enjoy summer and maybe many Chinese people prefer to participate in some watersports, such as swimming or dragon boat racing, in the ongoing Dragon Boat Festival (Duanwu Festival). We will have a holiday from 25th to 27th, namely Thursday to Saturday this week. In our holiday, our salespersons will keep contact with you. Dragon Boat Festival is a festival of history and culture. It derived from nearly two thousand year ago. In ancient time, people in area of Wu and Yue (today’s south China) worshiped Long. Long in ancient China is an auspicious animal, although it is absolutely fictitious. Anyway, the festival to worship Long was inherited.

However, Dragon Boat Festival is now most related with Qu Yuan, one of the most famous poets in China. After his suicide by jumping into Miluo River, people threw rice into river to prevent fishes from eating his body. This is said to be the origin of Zongzi, or traditional Chinese rice-pudding. Besides, people also tried to salvage Qu Yuan’s body, which turned to be the dragon boat ricing in today.

Except people from Wu and Yue or Qu Yuan, Dragon Boat Festival also has something to do with Wu Zixu, Cao E… All of them are famous in Chinese history played some important role in their time. Till now, globalization becomes a trend and so many traditional Chinese cultures spread to many countries and areas and many foreign friends enjoy them.

These years, in many countries, including US, Germany and UK, dragon boat ricing has become a popular sport. People from some Asian countries such as Japan, Korea and Vietnam also have their special ways to celebrate Dragon Boat Festival.
