15 Kinds of Plastic Packing Material

1. Package for meat

1) Requirements: The package is used to pack meat, so it is required for good barrier and wear-resistance. Besides, the package should be able to keep unbreakable, unsplit, non-shrinking and odorless.

2) Materials

a. Transparent: BOPA/CPP, PET/CPP, PET/BOPA/CPP, BOPA/PVDC/CPPPET/PVDC/CPP,  GL-PET/BOPA/CPP

b. Alu type: PET/AL/CPP, PA/AL/CPP, PET/PA/AL/CPP, PET/AL/PA/CPP

3) Advantages

a. PET: high temperature resistance, good rigidity, printability and strength;

b. PA: high temperature and puncture resistance, good strength, flexibility and barrier;

c. AL: the best barrier and high temperature resistance;

d. CPP: high temperature resistance, good seal and no toxin or smell;

e. PVDC: high temperature resistance and good barrier;

f. GL-PET: good barrier and microwave permeation

Proper material should be chosen according to particular product. Transparent bags is usually used for cooking and AL bags for high-temperature cooking.

 

2. Package for puffed snack food

1) Requirements: The package should be oxygen-, water- and light-proof, resistant to oil, fragrance-keeping, stiff, colorful and cheap.

2) Material: BOPP/VMCPP

3) Advantage: Both BOPP and VMCPP are stiff. Besides, the former is of good printability and gloss while the latter is of good barrier and can maintain fragrance and prevent dampening. CPP is also well resistant to oil.

The related machine is bag packing machine, such as to chips,hard nuts etc.

3. Package for sauce

1) Requirements: The package should be of no smell, good seal performance at low temperature, anti-pollution, good barrier and moderate cost.

2) Material: KPA/S-PE

3) Advantage: KPA has strong barrier and toughness and can be compounded with PE firmly for better unbreakability and printability. Modified PE is the blend of different kinds of PE material for heat seal at low temperature and strong ability of anti-pollution at the seal.

 

4. Package for biscuits

1) Requirements: Good barrier, strong light prevention, resistance to oil, high intensity, no smell and stiffness.

2) Material: BOPP/EXPE/VMPET/EXPE/S-CPP

3) Advantage: BOPP is of good rigidity, printability and low cost; VMPET has strong barrier to prevent light, oxygen and moisture; and S-CPP can be sealed at low temperature and resistant to oil.

 

5. Package for milk powder

1) Requirements: The package can maintain the product’s fragrance and taste, prevent it from oxidation, deterioration, dampening and blocking.

2) Material: BOPP/VMPET/S-PE

3) Advantage: BOPP has good printability, gloss, strength and price. VMPET is the material of high barrier, light prevention and good flexibility. For its metal gloss, VMPET can be plated with thick alu film. S-PE features anti-pollution at seal and good seal at low temperature.

 

6. Package for tea

1) Requirements: to prevent deterioration, decoloration and off-favor, namely, to prevent protein, chlorophyll, catechin and Vitamin C from oxidation.

2) Material: BOPP/AL/PE, BOPP/VMPET/PE, KPET/PE

3) Advantage: ALU, VMPET, KPET are all materials of good barrier, which can prevent oxygen, water vapor and foreign smells. AK foil and VMPET are also of good light prevention. All of them cost moderately.

 

7. Package for edible oil

1) Requirements: oxidation and deterioration prevention, good mechanical intensity, high burst resistance, oil resistance, gloss and transparency.

2) Material: PET/AD/PA/AD/PE, PET/PE, PE/EVA/PVDC/EVA/PE, PE/PEPE

 

3) Advantage: PA, PET and PVDC have high barrier to oil. PA, PET and PE are all intense. And PE at the inner layer has good ability of anti-pollution and good seal.

The related machine is oil mono dose plastic bottle forming filling and sealing machine， such as for olive oil.

 

 

 

8. Package for milk

1) Requirements: good barrier, high burst strength, light prevention, good heat seal and moderate price.

2) Material: white PE/white PE/black PE

3) Advantage: The outer PE layer is glossy, highly intense; the middle PE layer is the strength undertaker and the inner layer is for heat seal. The composite of them is of good ability of light prevention, barrier and heat seal.

 

9. Package for coffee powder

1) Requirements: The package can prevent material from dampening, oxidation, blocking after vacuuming and prevent coffee favor from being volatile.

2) Material: PET/PE/AL/PE, PA/VMPET/PE

3) Advantage: AL, PA and VMPET are all of good barrier to water and air and PE is of good heat seal.

 

10. Package for chocolate

1) Requirements: good barrier, light prevention, beautiful printing and heat seal at low temperature

2) Material: varnish for pure chocolate/ink/white BOPP/PVDC/cold sealant, vanish for nut chocolate/ink/VMPET/AD/BOPP/PVDC/cold sealant

3) Advantage: PVDC and VMPET are both high-barrier materials, which can be sealed at low temperature with cold sealant so that chocolate will not melt at high heat. And since there is too much oxidizing fat in nuts, a oxygen-proof layer is added into the packing material.

 

11. Package for beverage

1) Requirements: for acid drinks: pH <4.5, Pasteurization, and common barrier; for neutral drinks: pH>4.5, sterilization and high barrier.

2) Material

a. Acid drinks: PET/PE (CPP), BOPA/PE (CPP), PET/VMPET/PE

b. Neutral drinks: PET/AL/CPP, PET/AL/PA/CPP, PET/AL/PET/CPP, PA/AL/CPP

3) Advantage: For acid drinks, PET and PA can provide good barrier and are suitable for Pasteurization. Besides, the drink’s acidity can prolong shelf life. On the other hands, AL provides the best barrier for neutral drinks. And PET and PA are pretty intense to be resistant to high temperature for sterilization.

 

12. Three-dimensional package for liquid detergent

1) Requirements: high intensity, resistance to shock and burst, good barrier, rigidity, resistance to stress crack and good sealing ability.

2) Material

a. Main package part: BOPA/LLDPE, bottom: BOPA/LLDPE;

b. Main package part: BOPA/intensified BOPP/LLDPE, bottom: BOPA/LLDPE

c. Main package part: PET/BOPA/intensified BOPP/LLDPE, bottom: BOPA/LLDPE

3) Advantage: the above material are all of good barrier and rigidity, which enable them to be suitable for 3D package. And materials used for the bottom is soft and can be processed easily. With PE as the inner layer, the material obtains good ability of anti-pollution at the seal. Intensified BOPP improves material mechanical strength and barrier performance. In addition, PET can help material to be more waterproof and mechanically strong.

 

13. Bacteria-free package for beverage

1) Requirement: Package should keep bacteria-free during both packing and using

2) Material: coating/AL/peeling layer/MDPE/LDPE/EVA/peeling layer/PET

3) Advantage: PET is bacteria prevention film and can be peeled off. During packing in bacteria-free zone, PET can be peeled off and bacteria-free surface can be seen. And ALU foil is peeled off before drinking. Besides, a hole for drinking should be perforated on PE layer, which can be exposed after peeling off AL foil. AL foil is also high-barrier material of good heat seal performance, and MDPE has good rigidity and low cost. The inner EVA contains 7% VA. The material containing more than 14% VA is not permitted to contact food directly. And EVA can be sealed at low temperature with anti-pollution ability.

 

14. Package for pesticide

1) Requirements: pesticide is highly toxic and can danger human and environment safety. Therefore, its package is highly required to obtain high intensity, good flexibility, impact resistance and good seal.

2) Material: BOPA/VMPET/S-CPP

3) Advantages: BOPA is of good flexibility, puncture resistance, high strength and good printability. VMPET features high intensity and high barrier and can be coated more thickly. S-CPP also obtains good heat seal performance, high barrier and corrosion resistance. The mainly used CPP is TREPP or the CPP composite of high-barrier EVOH and PA.

Now the individual plastic bottle package for pesticide is also getting more and more popular, because of the special feature of pesticide mentioned above, we should use the high barrier material such as EOVH for the pesticide.

 

15. Package for bulk material

1) Requirements: Such kind of package is usually used to pack farm produces such as rices, beans or chemical products. The main requirement to it is high strength and necessary barrier.

2) Material: PE/plastic fabric/PP, PE/paper/PE/plastic fabric/PE，PE/PE

3) Advantages: PE obtains good seal performance, strength and impact resistance and plastic fabric is of high intensity.
